Early this week, the FDA revised authorizations for bamlanivimab/etesevimab and REGEN-COV due to their ineffectiveness against the Omicron variant. These treatments are not authorized to be used at this time.

IPA Launches Payment for Pharmacist Professional Services Task Force

In December, the IPA Board of Trustees approved the creation of a task force to advance pharmacist provider status and payment for pharmacy services in Iowa. The task force will be chaired by IPA’s Senior Advisor on Payer Relations, Matt Hosford.

U.S. Senators Move to Eliminate DIR Fees

U.S. Senators have recently sent a letter to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) requesting action on DIR fees. The letter proposes either working directly with Congress to eliminate DIR fees or to take administrative action to resolve this issue.

COVID-19 Update: Federal Mandate Blocked, Vaccine Updates and More

The Supreme Court has blocked the Biden Administration’s nationwide vaccine and testing mandate for large private employers. In addition, the CDC recommends that people who are moderately or severely immunocompromised should get three primary doses (instead of two) followed by a booster shot five months later.

COVID-19 Update: Boosters for Adolescents, Therapeutics Update and More

On Monday, the FDA amended its EUA to approve the Pfizer-BioNTech booster dose for use in adolescents age 12 to 15. The amended EUA also shortens the wait time between primary vaccine series completion and a booster dose from six to five months.
