This educational activity is highly relevant to pharmacists who frequently practice as part of the interprofessional team in treating patients with pain in hospitals, health systems and ambulatory care centers. Not all pharmacists are intimately familiar with the FDA’s Opioid Analgesic Risk Evaluation and Mitigation Strategy (REMS), which is essential in order to ensure that patients receive and understand the Medication Guides and information regarding the safe use of these products. With enhanced knowledge and strategies for managing patients with pain, pharmacists can support the interprofessional team in addressing opioid addiction and support the safe use of opioids.
