Outcomes Innovative Pharmacy Grant Program

The IPA Foundation Outcomes Innovative Pharmacy Endowment was established by the original investors of Outcomes Incorporated to support innovative pharmacy initiatives in the state of Iowa. The Outcomes Innovative Pharmacy Grant Program provides financial support for research, education and promotion of innovative pharmacy practice initiatives in the state of Iowa.

There are two funding pathways available for Iowa pharmacists to apply for a grant (Original vs. Entrepreneur):

  2. Outcomes Grant – Entrepreneur Track


Grant Cycle

Grant Requirements

Applicants must:
  • Be a current Iowa licensed pharmacist or Iowa based researcher working with innovative pharmacy practice by Iowa pharmacists.
  • Be active members of the Iowa Pharmacy Association.
  • Present their grant proposal in person to the IPA Foundation Board of Directors at the November Board meeting.
  • Present a poster at an IPA Annual Meeting following the conclusion of their grant project and final payment.
  • Submit an interim and final report to the IPA Foundation and publish a summary in The Journal of the Iowa Pharmacy Association.


Use of Grant Funds

Grant funds may be used only for direct costs associated with the development and implementation of the project described in the grant proposal. Expenditures for overhead and pharmacist provision of patient care services salaries will not be funded. Fees for research/technician services may be allowed if submitted in the proposed budget.

Applicants are encouraged to demonstrate in-kind and matching funds to support their project.

In conjunction with the final report, final expense reports must be submitted once the project has ended. Reports shall include detailed fund distribution and any other relevant information. See below for previous grant awards and funding amounts.


Application Procedure

The application process requires 1) completed application form and 2) project proposal. All applications must be submitted as a word document or PDF by 11:59 PM CT on September 1.
 
Proposal
Maximum of five (5) typewritten pages in Times New Roman, 11 point font, and 1.5 line spacing addressing the topics below. In addition to the grant narrative and budget, appendices may include bios for key project personnel, references and letters of support (max of 3).
  • Describe the innovation
  • Significance of innovation to the future pharmacy practice in the State of Iowa (background information, why is this issue being addressed, what change will this project affect?)
  • Detailed project objectives (Are sustainability and reproducibility project goals or is this a demonstration project?)
  • Project methodology and outcome measures. Include role of grantee and others in completing the project. Evaluation strategy to determine value/outcome of the project (how will outcome measures be evaluated to determine project success)
  • Key personnel qualifications
  • Project timetable from implementation to completion, including evaluation
  • Budget (detailed, see below)
  • Adequacy of the resources available to complete the project

Review Procedures

Upon receipt, IPA Foundation staff will review submitted applications and project proposals for completeness. Eligible applications will be reviewed and ranked by a grant selection committee established from the IPA Foundation Board of Directors. Technical assistance on evaluation of methodology will be sought out as required. Grant Application Scoring will be ranked, based on:
  • Significance of innovation to the future pharmacy practice in the State of Iowa
  • Clarity of project objectives
  • Project design
  • Adequacy of the resources available to complete the project
  • Key personnel qualifications
  • Evaluation strategy to determine value/outcome of the project
  • Budget (complete, reasonable)
