Leadership Endowment Honoring Thomas R. Temple Complete

The Iowa Pharmacy Association Foundation is excited to announce the completion of the Thomas R. Temple Leadership Endowment following a five-year fundraising effort.
Thanks to the generosity and commitment of Iowa's pharmacists, the Iowa Pharmacy Association Foundation is excited to announce the completion of the Thomas R. Temple Leadership Endowment. Following a five-year fundraising effort, the foundation achieved its goal of raising $375,000 to complete the endowment.

“We are overwhelmed by the generosity of those in the pharmacy profession in Iowa,” said Kate Gainer, PharmD, executive vice president and CEO of IPA. “The IPA Foundation is thankful that so many pharmacy colleagues in Iowa and across the country helped to recognize Tom's legacy by contributing to this endowment.”

The endowment was established in 2011 to recognize the leadership and commitment of Thomas Temple, who served as IPA's executive vice president and CEO from 1977 to 2011. Temple served the profession in Iowa for over three decades and was respected across the country for his collaboration, forward-thinking vision and tenacity that led Iowa to the forefront of pharmacy practice. Temple's vision of a leadership development program that would train young pharmacists for future leadership and engagement sparked the creation of the Leadership Pharmacy Conference in 1989.

“His impact on the pharmacy profession has been immense,” added Gainer. “Through the endowment, his legacy and contributions to the profession will be felt and understood for generations to come.”

“I'm really pleased to see that so many pharmacists and friends of pharmacy have stepped up to complete the endowment for Leadership Pharmacy,” said Temple. “This endowment will now ensure the continued existence of Leadership Pharmacy and other leadership initiatives in the future.”

Each year, 20 pharmacists, 10 each from Iowa and Wisconsin, who have been in practice for three to 15 years are chosen to participate in the program which kicks off with the Leadership Pharmacy Conference in the fall. Participants receive the training and tools to develop their leadership skills and prepare them for leadership roles within the pharmacy profession. The endowment will help to support the conference into perpetuity.

Those who donated to the endowment will be recognized by a permanent display at IPA's office in Des Moines, Iowa.
