Annual Meeting

Celebrate Professional Achievements in Iowa Pharmacy at IPA Annual Meeting!

IPA’s Annual Meeting is the epicenter of pharmacy practice in Iowa. Each year pharmacists, pharmacy technicians, and student pharmacists come together from across the state to discuss policy, share innovative ideas, and make meaningful connections with colleagues and pharmacy leaders. This September, plan to:
  • Take an active role in setting policy that will steer association action now.
  • Hear and share innovative ideas to implement at your practice and advance the profession.
  • Recharge by connecting with like-minded colleagues to build your network and find new opportunities for collaboration.
Join us at Annual Meeting to advance and celebrate your profession, and leave refreshed and invigorated to better serve your patients!

Self-Deception and Objectification:
Implications for Providing Care

Description: In order to provide patient-centered care, we first have to see the patient as a person with wants, needs, values and understandings of their own health that may be different from ours. Yet, we know from health disparities research that sometimes we see patients (and others in our life) as objects and not people. To see a human being as an object means that we become blind to their humanity. When we see patients as objects, we run the risk of overlooking or ignoring their true wants, needs, and emotions and feel justified in providing less care. Why does this happen, and how can we maintain a patient-centered approach more often? Find out by walking through some common scenarios of self-deception and objectification in practice and everyday life, and learn how to prevent them.
