The Iowa Pharmacy Association is joining as a co-signor with 14 other Iowa healthcare organizations on a letter urging the implementation of a statewide public mask order for all Iowans over the age of two. A copy of this letter sent to Governor Reynolds with all signatories included is available here.
Last week, the number of active COVID-19 cases in Iowa reached 6,229. With the number of infected Iowans climbing steadily closer to the previous peak of 7,337 active cases as reported on May 6, 2020, the organizations that have signed on support widespread use of cloth masks in public settings to drastically slow the spread of COVID-19 in our state.
By requiring public use of cloth masks, we can ultimately save the lives of Iowans. A statewide order, appropriately structured to account for young children and other special health considerations, further enhances the state's efforts to protect patient safety and safeguards Iowa's initial progress toward economic recovery.
